Biography

Eiman Ahmed Mahmoud, MD, MPH, professor at the Department of Foundational Biomedical Science and Director of Global Health Corticate Pathway at TUCOM. A pathologist by training, global health specialist, and medical educator with over 20 years of experience advancing healthcare access for underserved communities across East Africa and the MENA region.

She began her career as a pathologist with Sudan’s Ministry of Health and later worked with Doctors Without Borders (MSF), where she supported leishmaniasis programs serving displaced populations during the civil conflict in Sudan—an experience that shaped her enduring commitment to health equity in crisis settings.

Mahmoud began her academic career as research associate at University of California San Francisco Robert Stern Pathology Lab, and a lecturer at Samuel Merritt University and UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Mahmoud teaches preclinical and clinical students’ courses in renal, gastrointestinal and reproductive pathology, Fundamentals of Global Health I and II and Bedside to Community and Global Health Internship Elective. She is interested in the design, delivery, and assessment of NCD related community based participatory projects in LMICs, mentorship of experiential global health education for medical students and the development of advanced educational models that promote reciprocal benefits for both learners and host communities.

Her commitment to avail time and energy at this stage of her career to strengthen health system, medical education, and research in LMIC is reflected in her work in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Sudan highlighting the importance of a broader range commitment to equity and fairness in international collaborations. Through her leadership roles and involvement with national and international organizations she is able to provide students opportunities to connect scholarship with real-world practice, collaborate with international partners and develop intercultural competency.

Her work spans infectious disease epidemiology, cervical cancer prevention, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and health workforce capacity strengthening in low- and middle-income countries. She has deep expertise in designing and leading global health initiatives that integrate research, education, and service delivery to support healthcare workers operating in fragile and resource-limited contexts.

She has held several leadership roles, including serving on the Board of Trustees of DOCARE International and leading the Strategy Office of the Sudanese American Physicians Association. She is currently Secretary of the Consortium of Pan-African Medical Diaspora and a member of the Medical Education and Research Strengthening Initiative (MERSI), where she contributes to strengthening healthcare workforce capacity in East Africa through education and research.
