Precepting

Welcome, Prospective Preceptor!

We are thrilled that you’re interested in becoming a preceptor for the Touro University California Joint MSPAS-MPH Program.

Shape Healthcare & Primary Care

As a dedicated healthcare professional, you have a unique opportunity to shape the future of medicine by mentoring the next generation of physician assistants. By serving as a preceptor, you’ll guide students as they transition from the classroom to clinical practice, and also enhance your own leadership and teaching skills.

We are committed to training physician assistants with a strong foundation in primary care. Our clinical rotations provide students with six weeks of immersive, hands-on experience, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Depending on the site and specialty, students dedicate an average of 30 to 60 hours per week to their clinical training.

Clinical Rotation Specialties

During their clinical year, students gain experience across a variety of specialties, including:

  • Pediatrics – High demand (inpatient and/or outpatient)
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology – High demand
  • Internal Medicine – High demand (inpatient and/or outpatient)
  • Family Medicine / Primary Care
  • Behavioral Health
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Clinical Electives- Students can choose a variety of electives in all specialties and settings.

Our Commitment to Communities

We seek to partner with clinical sites that share our mission to improve access for vulnerable populations, including:

  • Rural communities
  • Immigrant and refugee populations
  • Unhoused individuals
  • Other at-risk groups

We collaborate with facilities such as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Community Health Centers. Together we can make a lasting impact on the future of health care and primary care.

“Meeting, observing, critiquing and working with PA students has been a joy. All of the Touro California PA students I have been privileged to precept have been prepared, capable and motivated. Helping them to develop into fine clinicians has constantly reminded me why I became a PA. In turn, they have helped me improve my habits and my practice. They've been good ambassadors for the amazing faculty and staff at Touro, who do so well in preparing students for the real world."
