Touro University California Accreditation

Touro University California is accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

Graduate School of Education Accreditation

Touro California's Graduate School of Education (GSOE) is granted the authority to offer Master of Arts in Education (MA. Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees by the WASC Senior College and University Commission.

The GSOE is certified to recommend and authorize teacher credentials by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Touro University California is fully endorsed by the CCTC until spring 2026.

Goals and Program Learning Outcomes

Goal #1 - It is the goal of the College of Education to help address the need for highly qualified teachers in public education.

  • PLO A: The College of Education will continue to implement the Start-up Plan for the Teacher Preparation Program.
  • PLO B: The College of Education will actively recruit the most qualified (potential, diversity, desire to teach, consistent with Vision Statement) applicants in order to fulfill the mission.
  • PLO C: The College of Education will develop active partnerships with schools for fieldwork and placement purposes.
  • PLO D: The College of Education will develop programs for transitioning successful candidates into teaching positions.

Goal #2 - It is the goal of the College of Education to understand and be responsive to the needs of school districts and schools relative to the training and preparation of teachers and other professional educators.

  • PLO A: The College of Education will continue to meet on a regular basis with the Touro University College of Education Advisory Board.
  • PLO B: The College of Education will continue to meet and communicate with school administrators, union representatives, teachers, etc. on an ongoing basis.
  • PLO C: The College of Education will utilize, in conformity with state requirements, the input of the above groups and individuals on an on-going basis.
  • PLO D: The College of Education will provide support for new teachers and others in conjunction with local school districts and schools.

Goal #3 - It is the goal of the College of Education to develop teacher candidates who are committed to and capable of meeting the educational needs of our most underserved students.

  • PLO A: The College of Education will carefully screen candidates for admission into the program to determine if their interests, commitment, potential, and attitudes are consistent with the mission of the program.
  • PLO B: The College of Education will expose candidates in their classroom work and in their clinical experiences to the value of teaching our most challenging students in our neediest schools.
  • PLO C: The College of Education will provide opportunities for teacher credential candidates to hear the authentic voices of students describing their experiences in school.
  • PLO D: The College of Education will provide opportunities for candidates for teaching and administrative credentials to become aware of themselves and develop and appreciation for and ability to view others through a culturally and racially sensitive lens.

Goal #4 - It is the goal of the College of Education to develop a faculty that truly understands, appreciates, and supports the implementation of the Vision Statement.

  • PLO A: The College of Education will select a professional staff that balances the strength of those with a theoretical background with the strengths of those with practical experience. This will be an ongoing process as staff is added based on enrollment growth and budgetary considerations.
  • PLO B: The College of Education will develop a cadre of practicing teachers who will mentor candidates and provide inspiration for their work.
  • PLO C: The College of Education will provide orientation for all faculty. The College of Education will provide on-going support and resources for faculty development.
  • PLO D: The College of Education will develop, encourage, and nurture a supportive learning community for faculty. PLO E. The College of Education will develop a system of accountability for staff that includes positive supervision and effective evaluation.

Preconditions for California Educator Preparation Programs

In 2004, GSOE was approved by the CCTC to offer single subject and multiple subject credential programs. The educational specialist programs were approved in 2005. In 2008, administrative services credentials were added.
