Biography
Kizzy (Myisha) Parker is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program at Touro University California's College of Education and Health Sciences. She is a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) with extensive experience in psychiatry, emergency medicine, neurology, and infectious disease.
Professor Parker earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso, her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Georgetown University, and completed her Post-Master's Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate at National University. She brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and academic leadership to the classroom, combining evidence-based practice with real-world patient care.
In addition to her faculty role, Professor Parker practices outpatient psychiatry in California, providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy to patients across the lifespan through telehealth. She also serves as a clinical preceptor and mentor for graduate nursing students, helping future nurse practitioners develop strong diagnostic reasoning, therapeutic communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
Professor Parker's professional interests include psychiatric assessment, psychopharmacology, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), trauma-informed care, telepsychiatry, and advanced nursing education. She is passionate about preparing the next generation of nurse practitioners to deliver compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally responsive mental health care.
Her teaching philosophy centers on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, clinical confidence, and lifelong learning. She believes the most effective education bridges classroom knowledge with authentic patient experiences, empowering students to become skilled clinicians and compassionate advocates for the individuals and communities they serve.
