Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) is a grant program to support local high school, college, and post-college students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to pursue healthcare careers and enroll at Touro University California.

Our goal is to help you enroll and graduate from a health professions program. Our programs provide unique opportunities for community-based experiential health professions training, with a special emphasis on experiences in underserved communities.

Who Can Apply?
To qualify for any of our health career opportunity programs you must be:
- Interested in pursuing a career in a health profession
- A resident of a County North of San Francisco Bay (Solano, Napa, Contra Costa, San Joaquin)
- From an educationally and economically disadvantaged background
Economically Disadvantaged
Individuals are considered from an “economically disadvantaged” background if they come from a family with an annual income below a level based on low-income thresholds, according to family size established by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Secretary defines a ‘‘low-income family/household’’ as having an annual income that meets the criteria listed below:

Educationally Disadvantaged
Individuals are considered from an “educationally disadvantaged” background if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- First generation in their family to attend college;
- Graduated from (or attended) a high school which either had a:
- Low percentage of seniors receiving a high school diploma; or
- Low percentage of high school graduates who attend college the following year after graduation
- Graduated from (or attended) a high school with low per capita funding;
- Graduated from (or attended) a high school where many of the enrolled students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.
Our Pathway Programs
High School & College Summer Healthcare Program
A six-week exploration of health professions careers. Dive into hands-on experiences, community research projects, and mentoring opportunities to guide your path. Get support for college applications so you are ready to take the next step of your educational journey.
- $600 to $750 Stipend
Health Professions Bridge Program
Prepare for your first academic year in one of Touro’s professional programs (Medicine; Pharmacy; Physician Assistant Studies) with our immersive 4-week summer session. Orient yourself, connect with Touro faculty, and tap into academic support services for a strong start.
- $1,000 Stipend
HCOP Post-bac Enrichment Program
Enhance your Touro University post-bac – Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences or Master's in Public Health – with our year-long 1-credit course. You’ll get help with career planning, study methods, and gain insights into the admissions process and requirements for health careers programs.
- $500 Stipend
HCOP Ambassador Program
We have Ambassador programs that form a ladder toward admission into a healthcare program at Touro University California. You will get help navigating educational pathways and gain career guidance while actively participating in a year-long public health project.
