Student-Doctor Earns National Recognition
Amrit Banga, a Graduate of the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences Program, Received the Sterling Welch, DO Scholars Award
Amrit Banga (MSMHS Class of 2022) recently received the Sterling Welch, DO Scholars Award. This award is achieved through strong academic achievement, participation in volunteer service activities, and a strong commitment to Osteopathic medicine.
Banga, a DO candidate with the Class of 2026, has participated in numerous community service activities at Touro University California stemming back to when he was a master’s student. Through the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences at Touro, Banga was able to not only engage with the rigorous educational curriculum but with the local Vallejo community as well.
Banga began his efforts to serve the Vallejo community through the COVID-19 vaccination clinics, which he has continued to support. Banga is also a coordinator for the Syringe Exchange Program, which is a club started at Touro known as the Addictive Medicine Collaborative. Banga was able to engage with community members who use substances and try to help support them in the safest way possible.
This gave Banga an excellent opportunity to practice his skills as a recent graduate from Touro University California’s very first Opioid Use Disorder Fellowship.
Banga also spends his time volunteering at the Student-Run Free Clinic as a coordinator and volunteer. The clinic offers patients the ability to get treated with osteopathic manipulative treatments by DO students and trained physicians.
He has been enjoying his time at Touro and is truly grateful for his opportunity to have joined the family that Touro and all the local Vallejo community has to offer, whether this is through sporting events, community events, or school-hosted events.
Banga aspires in the upcoming months to continue his journey as an osteopathic physician on rotations with his fellow classmates.
