Biography

My scholarly work aims to identify and test ways to overcome the barriers to accessing health care, specifically stigmatized services such as reproductive health care and gender-based violence services, in low-resource settings and with hard-to-reach populations. I have been involved in projects that (1) develops and test an mHealth intervention that links female entertainment workers in Cambodia to health services, (2) develops and tests a emotional support hotline for women in Cambodia who have experienced violence and (3) a web-app for community members to mental health services in Solano County, CA. I have conducted three large-scale systematic reviews for multilateral foreign aid organizations that focused on measures used to evaluate combination HIV prevention programs, the evidence for reproductive health vouchers and the impact on female empowerment of economic self-help groups. I have been involved with programs and research for governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as foundations in Sri Lanka, Ghana, Haiti, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Cambodia and India.
