A “natural leader” seeking dual doctoral and master’s degrees at Touro University California has earned a $500 scholarship based on the strength of her campus and community involvement.

Manda Nguyen-Sanh, who is pursuing a Dual DO/MPH, said she is “elated and honored” to receive recognition from the TUC Alumni Association.

“Receiving this scholarship is a true honor and a meaningful reminder of my passions for medicine, public health, and most of all, community-centered work,” Nguyen-Sanh said. “I am inspired to continue staying curious and engaged in the world around me so I can blossom into the best physician I can be for my future patients. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to represent this award.”

Dr. Tami Hendriksz, Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and a 2006 alumna of the DO program, praised Nguyen-Sanh for her ability to translate learning into meaningful community impact through her roles as vice president of the Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group, clinic coordinator for the Berkeley Suitcase OMM Clinic, and participant in Touro’s Social Justice Fellowship.

“Student Doctor Nguyen-Sanh is an outstanding student whose academic excellence is matched by her commitment to leadership and service,” Hendriksz said. “She is deeply deserving of this scholarship and exemplifies the values of a compassionate, mission-driven future physician.”

Dr. Gayle Cummings, director of the Public Health program at TUC, has come to know Nguyen-Sanh through her role as a Fellow in the Public Health Program. Cummings said she has been “deeply impressed by her leadership, academic strength, and commitment to community health.”

“Manda exemplifies the values of Touro University California,” Cummings said in recommending Nguyen-Sanh for the scholarship. “She is a dedicated scholar, a natural leader, and a changemaker who is already making an impact.”
