Biography

Dr. Coffman is a board-certified general surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in clinical practice and teaching. As a general surgeon trained at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine-Mercy Hospital, he then completed fellowships in both Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Medicine at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. His involvement nationally includes organizations including AOA, ACOS and its In-Depth Review Committee, Trauma Panel Moderator, and with the AOBS as an Oral Surgical Board Examiner. Throughout his career he has been involved in numerous leadership roles at both local and state levels. He served as Surgeon Director for the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists and is a Fellow of the Advanced Executive Physician Leadership Program, Heller School of Social Policy, Brandeis University, Boston. He is currently an Associate Professor at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine-California, dedicating much time as both clinical educator and preceptor to medical students and residents.
