Putting faith in food and toys in Vallejo

Raised in upstate New York, “we didn’t know we were poor,” said Irene O’Brien. “My mother would put each sock in a different box and wrapped it up so we thought we had a bunch of gifts.”

Now 13 years in Vallejo, O’Brien could relate to the plight of many standing in line in 42 degrees in front of Faith Food Fridays, awaiting a “Christmas box” of food and toys for children.
