Dr. Snyder began his undergraduate work in history, but graduated from Lafayette College with a B.A. in Chemistry.  He received his M.D. from Albany Medical College, and a reserve commission as Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy Reserve Medical Corps.  His did his postgraduate training in urological surgery at Rush Medical College, and served 3 years aboard destroyers in the South China Sea and at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.  Dr. Snyder then joined the Naval Reserve, and worked at Kaiser Health Care  for many years as Chief of Department and Chief of Surgical Staff.  He currently has particular interest in the history of the first Naval Hospital on the West Coast at Mare Island, California.  In 2005, he co-founded the Society for the History of Navy Medicine.  As Executive Director, he has overseen its growth to more than 175 members worldwide.
