California Health Professional Student Alliance - #TenOne

Time: Thursday, October 1 at 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM || 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Location: Lander Hall Entrance || Lander Hall A

#TenOne is hosted by CaHPSA, the California Health Professional Student Alliance. It is co-sponsored by WhiteCoats4BlackLives, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the Student National Pharmacy Association.

The Congressional Budget Office predicts that at least 27 million Americans will be uninsured every year for the next 10 years. The American Journal of Public Health showed in a given year, there are 1,000 deaths for every 1 million people that are related to lack of insurance. This means many thousands of people will most likely die every year for the next ten years if we do not get people universally covered with a health insurance plan. Many people with insurance are under-insured, and this significantly limits their utilization of our health care system. Because of costs, these people may forego seeing their doctor, having tests done, filling prescriptions, etc.

As future healthcare professionals, it is imperative that we understand these issues. That is why CaHPSA is hosting teach-in and pseudo-candlelight vigil this Thursday evening (in solidarity with health professional schools across the country). Come learn and share your thoughts with us! Sustaining snacks will be provided.

Times and Locations:

  • At lunch from 12:00-1:00 p.m., we will be inside the Lander Hall Entrance with an interactive display. Stop by and say "hi"!
  • That evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m., in Lander Lecture Hall A, we will have a Health Care System Teach-In and Discussion featuring Pat Snyder, RN, Ph.D.
