Touro's Graduate School of Education Celebrates it's 10-Year Anniversary
(Vallejo, CA – May 6, 2014) – After graduating more than 600 students who have become educational leaders in the counties of Solano, Napa, Contra Costa, and beyond, the Graduate School of Education is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a festive celebration honoring alumni, students, and community members on May 19th at 6 p.m. in the Lander Hall Auditorium.
“We have come a long way since our beginning in 2004 and are delighted to celebrate this milestone with our alumni, friends and community,” said Shelley Berkley, Senior Provost and Chief Executive Officer at Touro University California (TUC). “In the last 10 years, we’ve seen our Graduate School of Education adapt and innovate to meet the changing needs of our communities, helping us to create a nation of leaders. We are proud to play a role in recognizing their service to the public.”
The event will focus on alumni from the past decade and celebrate current TUC students. Reception will follow immediately.
Since 2004, the Graduate School of Education has offered master’s degrees in education and teacher credentials. To date, 98% of its alumni are actively working in local schools.
“We are proud to say that our teachers are serving in almost every school within thirty miles from our campus on Mare Island, Vallejo,” says Justin Heard, Assistant Dean and Director of the Graduate School of Education. “We are also proud of our partnerships with school districts, foundations, and the federal department of education. We are working to improve the learning environment for each student and prepare them for the future.”
Graduate School of Education (GSOE) offers a Master of Arts in Education, an online Master of Education Degree, and a variety of educational credentials and licenses. The Master of Arts in Education is offered in Educational Leadership, Educational Technology, Special Education, Teaching and Learning, Teaching Mathematics, and Urban Education. The online Master of Education Degree is offered in Innovative Learning. Credentials, authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, are in the areas of Special Education, Elementary and Secondary Teaching, and Administration.
"We are proud of the fact that the Graduate School of Education is mission-driven with our mission being ‘To Lead, To Teach, and to Serve,’” said Dr. Jim O’Connor, Dean and Professor for the College of Education and Health Sciences at Touro University California. “We prepare our graduates to work in schools that are traditionally underserved and to work with students who need to learn differently because they may be deemed ‘at-risk.’ Our graduates are truly making a difference in the lives of thousands of students.”
